Bill 67: renting your principal residence short-term in Quebec

Many owners think renting their home on Airbnb is banned. In most of Quebec, that is wrong. Since Bill 67, in force since March 2023, most municipalities cannot stop you from renting your principal residence short term.

Limits remain in some large cities. In Montreal, principal residence rentals are only allowed from June 10 to September 10. In Quebec City, a yearly cap on days applies. For a cottage or a second property, municipal zoning still applies. In a condo, the declaration must allow short-term rental. And in every case, you need a CITQ registration number and must display it on your listings.

The result is that thousands of owners leave money on the table because they assume it is complicated or forbidden. It is not, when someone handles compliance for you.
