SHORT-TERM RENTAL

The rules in your municipality.

Every Quebec municipality has its own short-term rental rules. Search yours.

New in 2026: Quebec is tightening registration. Two proofs of principal residence are required at registration and renewal, and the owner's or condo syndicate's consent will have to be renewed every year (measures announced March 25, 2026, in force April 9 and September 1, 2026).

Principal residence

Prohibited in most zones of the city (bylaw renewed in 2023). Exceptions: zones where the light lodging use is permitted, or conditionally permitted with council approval (about a 90-day process). Conformity attestation and CITQ number required where authorized.

Secondary residence or chalet

Banned on almost the entire territory; only a few sectors such as the Blanc sur vert domain are exceptions. The City monitors online listings and a mere listing can trigger a fine.

In every case: CITQ registration number required and 3.5% lodging tax applies.
