New in 2026: Quebec is tightening registration. Two proofs of principal residence are required at registration and renewal, and the owner's or condo syndicate's consent will have to be renewed every year (measures announced March 25, 2026, in force April 9 and September 1, 2026).

Principal residence

Allowed with a municipal permit, but capped: a maximum number of principal-residence establishments per zone, first come, first served.

Secondary residence or chalet

Allowed in certain zones only and prohibited elsewhere; consult the municipality's tourist accommodation page and verify your zone before any project.

In every case: CITQ registration number required and 3.5% lodging tax applies.
