New in 2026: Quebec is tightening registration. Two proofs of principal residence are required at registration and renewal, and the owner's or condo syndicate's consent will have to be renewed every year (measures announced March 25, 2026, in force April 9 and September 1, 2026).

Principal residence

Prohibited in 81 zones since the bylaw approved by registers in March 2023; allowed only in zones where tourist accommodation is already authorized by zoning.

Secondary residence or chalet

Whatever the residence type, short-term rental is allowed only in zones authorized by zoning (official map on the municipality's website); use amendment and CITQ number required.

In every case: CITQ registration number required and 3.5% lodging tax applies.
