New in 2026: Quebec is tightening registration. Two proofs of principal residence are required at registration and renewal, and the owner's or condo syndicate's consent will have to be renewed every year (measures announced March 25, 2026, in force April 9 and September 1, 2026).

Principal residence

Allowed with registration; a complementary tourist use is possible within the urban perimeter.

Secondary residence or chalet

Converting homes into tourist residences is prohibited in the village core (zones CH08, CH09, H19, bylaw 19-353 amended by 22-396); tourist residences are reserved for resort and recreational sectors (Mont-Édouard, marina).

In every case: CITQ registration number required and 3.5% lodging tax applies.
