New in 2026: Quebec is tightening registration. Two proofs of principal residence are required at registration and renewal, and the owner's or condo syndicate's consent will have to be renewed every year (measures announced March 25, 2026, in force April 9 and September 1, 2026).

Secondary residence or chalet

Tourist residence restricted to certain zones (bylaw 2021-326 amending 2002-56); acquired rights are recognized. Verify the exact zone before buying.

In every case: CITQ registration number required and 3.5% lodging tax applies.
