New in 2026: Quebec is tightening registration. Two proofs of principal residence are required at registration and renewal, and the owner's or condo syndicate's consent will have to be renewed every year (measures announced March 25, 2026, in force April 9 and September 1, 2026).

Allowed across the territory, subject to the CITQ registration preceded by the municipal conformity notice.

Secondary residence or chalet

Commercial use allowed only in certain commercial zones; contact the planning department for the specific zone.

In every case: CITQ registration number required and 3.5% lodging tax applies.
