New in 2026: Quebec is tightening registration. Two proofs of principal residence are required at registration and renewal, and the owner's or condo syndicate's consent will have to be renewed every year (measures announced March 25, 2026, in force April 9 and September 1, 2026).

Principal residence

Prohibited: the municipality completed the referendum procedure provided by law to ban principal-residence establishments on its territory.

Secondary residence or chalet

Subject to zoning; any zones where tourist residences would be authorized remain to be confirmed with the municipality.

In every case: CITQ registration number required and 3.5% lodging tax applies.
