New in 2026: Quebec is tightening registration. Two proofs of principal residence are required at registration and renewal, and the owner's or condo syndicate's consent will have to be renewed every year (measures announced March 25, 2026, in force April 9 and September 1, 2026).

Secondary residence or chalet

Limited since 2021 to resort sectors; buying to convert into tourist rental is prohibited elsewhere. Existing operations keep their acquired rights.

In every case: CITQ registration number required and 3.5% lodging tax applies.
