New in 2026: Quebec is tightening registration. Two proofs of principal residence are required at registration and renewal, and the owner's or condo syndicate's consent will have to be renewed every year (measures announced March 25, 2026, in force April 9 and September 1, 2026).

Principal residence

Rentals under 120 days are prohibited on the vast majority of the territory (bylaw 1314-2021-Z-7). They remain allowed in a very limited sector, notably rue de l'Héritage (zone T3.2-001) and a sector near La Coupole. Validate the zone with the planning department before any project.

Secondary residence or chalet

Same framework: rentals under 120 days prohibited except in the specific zones mentioned. Rentals of 120 days or more remain allowed elsewhere.

In every case: CITQ registration number required and 3.5% lodging tax applies.
