New in 2026: Quebec is tightening registration. Two proofs of principal residence are required at registration and renewal, and the owner's or condo syndicate's consent will have to be renewed every year (measures announced March 25, 2026, in force April 9 and September 1, 2026).

Principal residence

Rentals under 30 days have been prohibited across the territory for about fifteen years, except one restricted village zone. The municipality actively enforces its bylaw.

Secondary residence or chalet

Same prohibition outside the village zone. Verify the exact boundary with the municipality.

In every case: CITQ registration number required and 3.5% lodging tax applies.
