New in 2026: Quebec is tightening registration. Two proofs of principal residence are required at registration and renewal, and the owner's or condo syndicate's consent will have to be renewed every year (measures announced March 25, 2026, in force April 9 and September 1, 2026).

Principal residence

The municipality ran a referendum process to prohibit principal-residence establishments in about 30 of its 96 zones. The final state of the zone-by-zone bylaws must be confirmed with the municipality.

Secondary residence or chalet

Pre-existing zoning framework: tourist residences are allowed only in authorized zones. Exact zones to confirm.

In every case: CITQ registration number required and 3.5% lodging tax applies.
