New in 2026: Quebec is tightening registration. Two proofs of principal residence are required at registration and renewal, and the owner's or condo syndicate's consent will have to be renewed every year (measures announced March 25, 2026, in force April 9 and September 1, 2026).

Principal residence

Short-term rental is limited to a few specific zoning areas. Outside them it is not authorized, including for principal residences under the adopted framework. Confirm the property's zone with the planning department.

Secondary residence or chalet

Allowed only in zones authorized by the zoning bylaw (limited sectors). Zone check and certificate required before renting.

In every case: CITQ registration number required and 3.5% lodging tax applies.
