New in 2026: Quebec is tightening registration. Two proofs of principal residence are required at registration and renewal, and the owner's or condo syndicate's consent will have to be renewed every year (measures announced March 25, 2026, in force April 9 and September 1, 2026).

Principal residence

Allowed if the property meets the CITQ definition of a principal residence establishment, with a registration number and a principal-residence attestation form filed with the municipality, within the authorized perimeter.

Secondary residence or chalet

Allowed only in the zones identified in the zoning bylaw (a restricted sector around the village); elsewhere, rentals under 4 months are not authorized. Change of use and CITQ number required.

In every case: CITQ registration number required and 3.5% lodging tax applies.
