New in 2026: Quebec is tightening registration. Two proofs of principal residence are required at registration and renewal, and the owner's or condo syndicate's consent will have to be renewed every year (measures announced March 25, 2026, in force April 9 and September 1, 2026).

Principal residence

Allowed in designated zones with a municipal permit of about $150 and a limit of 180 rental days per year.

Secondary residence or chalet

Allowed only in zones REC-01, REC-02, REC-04, REC-06, REC-07, REC-08, REC-13 and C-01 to C-05, C-07, C-08, with a permit and a 180-day yearly limit.

In every case: CITQ registration number required and 3.5% lodging tax applies.
